Discovery Place Kids-Matthews
The Town of Matthews and Discovery Place are bringing a new Discovery Place Kids museum to Matthews – currently planned for 2029.
A new Discovery Place Kids in Matthews will be a valuable community resource, providing families with a hands-on learning environment designed to spark curiosity, encourage creativity and foster a love of learning in young children.
Join the Discussion
Discovery Place is planning to launch a series of community Visioning and Listening Sessions in September to gather input and hear directly from residents to shape a museum experience that truly belongs to Matthews. Every aspect of the museum will reflect the voices and needs of Matthews families and the community. The museum will be built with the community, for the community.

Our Progress
The Town will provide building space and Discovery Place will oversee the upfitting and operation of the museum. The building space will be funded through the Town’s Tourism Fund and is expected to be available within the next five years.
The proposed plan includes co-locating the new museum with a newly constructed Matthews Elementary School at 200 E McDowell Street in Matthews.
This museum will be a hub of imagination, and hands-on learning, designed to inspire young minds and bring families together. More than just a destination, it will be a valuable community resource where children can explore science in a fun and engaging way.”
